What material are Invisalign aligners made of? Are they comfortable?
Invisalign aligners are made out of SmartTrack material, a plastic material often made from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) which is a clear, durable and flexible material. Invisalign is known to be a lot more lightweight and comfortable than traditional braces. The smooth plastic of the aligners eliminates the possibility of your skin, tongue, lips, etc. from getting caught in the metal brackets traditional braces are made from.
Is Invisalign as effective as traditional metal braces?
The short answer is yes, Invisalign are just as effective as traditional braces in straightening your smile. In fact, it is believed in moderate and mild cases, Invisalign actually works better than traditional metal braces as they apply pressure all around the teeth in order to move them, where as traditional braces pull from a specific point on a tooth where the bracket has been attached. It is important to note, that in more sever situations of over-crowding and crookedness, metal braces may be needed to straighten the teeth.
